Abby's Story

On June 2, 2008, our beloved Abby, a big, white Percheron cross had an accident.  She came in from turnout severely lame and after some x-rays the diagnosis was not good.  Abby had sustained a compound fracture in her left hind leg.  However, the vets at Anoka Equine said that with a relatively minor surgery they could insert a pin and/or screw in the break to graft the broken bones and that with proper care and therapy she could recover.

The problem was that her owner lacked the funds to pay for the surgery and additional recovery expenses.  The surgery costs would amount to over $3,200 and then another $1,300 - $1,500 for therapy and follow-up vet visits.  The unfortunate reality for Abby's owner appeared to be putting her cherished companion down.

Abby, however, resides at a very special place and everyone at the ranch knows and loves Abby.  She is truly a gentle giant with loving dark eyes set against her kind white face.  The boarders and staff at the ranch have joined the owner in an effort to save Abby and together with many generous doners have managed to raise enough funds to cover her surgery and some post-op care.  We have a good start, but we are in dire need of more help.  Please help us continue the plight to save Abby and provide her with a second chance.  Even the smallest donation will help.

Surgery in June

The initial surgery occurred in June of 2008 and was peformed by Anoka Equine .  The surgery was a great success and Abby is doing quite well in her recovery.

Many, many, many, heartfelt  thanks to all who contributed and donated.

Send Abby a "get well       soon" message from           the "Contact Us" page.
