Abby's Updates

September, 2008

Abby continues to do well and is being walked consistently twice a day.  Although the swelling in her hock is still apparent she doesn't seem to be in any discomfort and is able to walk quite well.   Abby is enjoying some outside time and fresh air relaxing in a small pen (a bit larger then her stall) that was built especially for her.  Soon she will be able to roam in a much larger paddock and possibly a bigger pasture eventually.  Even though Abby is doing well she will not be able to rejoin the large herd that she was in when she broke her leg.   Her spirits continue to be high and she is friendly, responsive and playful.

August 31, 2008

Abby continues to improve and get better.  She is now being walked two to three times a day and the swelling in her leg has gone down considerably.   Abby had x-rays and she is healing but the crack is still visible as the bone continues to graft together from the screws.   The vet said It will still be another twelve weeks of therapy before another round of x-rays can be taken to check to see if the bone is grafting together.   Abby's spirits are high and she seems comfortable and happy.  She is walking fine and is getting out of the stall for light grazing.   However it will be quite some time before she can be ridden and will not be able to trot or canter for a while.  We will continue to update the website in September as Abby's therapy will continue.

August 5, 2008

Abby's next x-rays will be scheduled soon.  We continue to walk her and try to give her some grazing time.

July 27, 2008

Abby's Horseplay Ranch fundraiser was a success.  We have passed the $4,500 goal and the final numbers will be published soon.

The swelling in Abby's operative leg continues to go down.  We now give Abby 20 minute walks outside.  It is hoped that we can soon start walking her twice a day.

July 21, 2008

Abby's recovery from her surgery continues.  She is still confined to her stall with the exception of two daily breaks.  She is placed in an outside wash stall for 20 minutes in the morning while her stall is cleaned and she is walked for 20 minutes every night.  The swelling continues to recede and she does not have any discomfort in the area in which the pins were placed.

July 7, 2008

Abby is now recovering from her surgery.  Here is the Anoka Equine discussion of her injury and of her surgery.
